why we run

Start of the Artichoke 1/2 marathon in beautiful Pescadero, CA
     April 14, 2013

The smiles at the finish line...

We do it because it makes us feel like this picture of my friend Marina when she finished the Artichoke 1/2 marathon in Pescadero this weekend.

We do it, despite sometimes coming home and needing to ice our legs, because despite those aches and pains, our brains feel good.

We do it because nothing else in the world makes us feel better.

We do it because of the emotional gems that it unearths from our psyches as each mile unfolds.

We do it because of the mysteries about our selves that slowly become solved as the miles go by.

We do it because it makes everything else disappear for a while except foot fall and breath.

We do it because we can.

(Love and solidarity to the runners, spectators and families of the Boston Marathon)
