Sunrise over the South Sister and a nearly perfect alpine meadow.
Heading towards the Middle Sister... Early morning beauty!
Wild, low-bush Blueberries. yumminess.
Obsidian Falls.
Obsidian Creek. As pretty as it sounds.
Obsidian!!! So awesome.
Going from Obsidian Creek (the Obsidian Limited Entry Area) to the North Sister...
Saying goodbye to the North Sister...
Endless lava....
Journal Entry: Hwy 242/ Lava Lake Camp, 20.0 Miles, 1968.5- 1988.3
"What a spectacular day!! Walked by all "Three Sisters" Today; crossed obsidian; walked across lava; now camped with Terese + Polar Bear again. Paul Bunyon Never showed up. We had wagers on whether or not he ever left Elk Lake last night. Doubtful. It makes me sad for him. I hope he doesn't miss/skip this last 20 miles... it would be a shame. My legs are still sore from the 28 mile adventure, but nothing too serious. My left PTT was acting up after lunch, and both knees are sore in the patellar tendon area. Oh well. Hmmmm. So little to say. It's a different experience walking + camping with others. The loneliness of my first leg is certainly not a factor right now. Lots of people here in Oregon: day hikers, folks doing the Sisters Loop... It's very social. Now: I'm tired. Want to read my book (Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance) but not feeling the energy. It's weird camping in a place with car campers... 3 of the last 4 nights. So happy to be tired, sober + clear headed. Life."
